The TB6612FNG Dual DC Motor Driver Module uses MOSFET output transistors rather than the bipolar transistors found inside the L298N. That difference matters in practice — bipolar transistors drop up to 2V across the output stage and convert that drop into heat, while the MOSFET design in the TB6612FNG Dual DC Motor Driver drops far less voltage across the output, delivering more supply voltage to the motor and producing significantly less heat at the same output current. Two independent motor channels each handle 1.2A continuous current with 3.2A peak — the peak rating covers the inrush current spike that brushed DC motors produce at startup, which would otherwise trip or stall current-limited drivers.
The tb6612 motor driver module provides PWM speed control and forward/reverse direction control on each channel through logic-level input pins compatible with both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers. Separate VCC and VM pins keep the logic supply and motor supply isolated from each other — motor switching noise stays off the microcontroller power rail, preventing the reset events and erratic behaviour that occur when motor drivers and MCUs share the same supply without isolation.
The standby mode on the TB6612FNG reduces current draw when motors are idle, extending battery runtime between motion commands in builds portable robots. Avaliable on StemVolt. The dual dc motor driver module suits two-wheel robot chassis, conveyor belt mechanisms, and small CNC axis drives.
