What are ESC Modules?

An electronic speed controller is a module that sits between the flight controller and the brushless motor in a drone or RC vehicle. It receives PWM throttle signals from the flight controller and converts battery power into the three-phase AC current needed to drive a brushless motor at the commanded speed. How to Choose the Right ESC

Choose based on motor current draw and drone build type. The ESC continuous current rating must be higher than the motor's maximum continuous current draw. For standard 2212 motors on F450 builds, 20A to 30A ESC modules are sufficient. For larger motors on heavy-lift builds, 40A or higher is needed. Always match ESC firmware to your flight controller protocol. One practical tip: always check that your ESC supports the battery cell count in your LiPo pack before soldering, as connecting a 4S LiPo to a 3S-rated ESC will damage it immediately on power-up.
