The 2S 5A BMS 18650 Lithium Battery Protection Board monitors those two cells and manages the charge and discharge cycle safely. Two 18650 Li-Ion cells connected in series produce 7.4V nominal and reach 8.4V at full charge 4.2V per cell. A 2S pack without BMS protection has no automatic cutoff cells can overcharge past 4.2V during charging if the charger fails, or discharge below safe cutoff voltage during use, both of which cause permanent capacity loss and increase thermal risk in the cells.
The 2S battery protection board 8.4v cuts the charge path when either cell reaches overcharge detection voltage, and cuts the discharge path when either cell drops to the over-discharge detection threshold. Internal resistance below 45mΩ keeps the voltage drop across the BMS board minimal at 5A continuous draw, less than 0.225V is lost across the protection board, leaving more of the cell’s voltage available at the output terminals.
