Description

The 5mm LDR light dependent resistor sensor changes resistance based on how much light hits it. In bright conditions the ldr sensor resistance drops to 10 to 20kΩ, and in darkness it rises to several hundred kilohms. Place it in a voltage divider with a fixed resistor and connect to any Arduino or ESP analog pin to read light levels.

One honest limitation is that the light dependent resistor has a response time of 20ms to increase and 30ms to decrease, so rapidly flickering light sources may not read accurately. Students and hobbyists this 5mm ldr sensor for automatic lighting, alarm triggers, and line-following builds. Drop it into a breadboard, add a 10K pull-down, and read the analog pin.
