Description

The 8 Channel IR Infrared Sensor Array uses 8 independent IR (Infrared) emitter and receiver pairs to detect the boundary between a dark line and a light surface. The 8 channel ir array sensor runs on 3.3V to 5V DC and draws 100mA total at full operation. Each channel outputs a digital HIGH or LOW signal. Optimal sensing distance sits at 3mm with a maximum of 9.5mm, so chassis height directly affects detection quality.

The 8 channel ir line sensor array uses IR reflectance sensing per channel. One non-obvious detail — all 8 channels fire sequentially in most implementations, not simultaneously. Crosstalk (interference between adjacent channels) increases at distances beyond 9.5mm, so mounting above that height causes unreliable readings. The honest limitation is sensitivity to ambient light. Direct sunlight overwhelms the receivers. Use indoors only. The ir line following sensor connects to Arduino, ESP32, and STM32 digital input pins through a single connector. Engineering students and line follower competition builders use it.
