8×8 RGB 64 LED Dot Matrix Display Module – Cathode

The 8×8 RGB 64 LED Dot Matrix Display Module is a raw 8-by-8 matrix of full-color RGB LEDs — each of the 64 pixel positions contains three individual LEDs (red, green, and blue) that can be controlled independently to produce any color including yellow (red + green), cyan (green + blue), magenta (red + blue), and white (all three on) — making it the only dot matrix component in the range capable of displaying multicolor patterns, rainbow effects, and color-coded pixel animations, compared to the red-only single-color output of the MAX7219 modules.

The 8×8 rgb led dot matrix display has 16 external pins arranged in two rows of 8 — one row for the 8 matrix columns and one row for the 8 matrix rows — in a standard common cathode configuration with 2V forward voltage and 5 to 10mA per LED segment. The cathode dot matrix display is a raw LED matrix component with no onboard driver IC, unlike the MAX7219 modules which include the driver on the module PCB — this means the builder needs to use external shift registers (such as the 74HC595) or a dedicated RGB LED matrix driver to control all row and column signals simultaneously for the multiplexed display operation.

The led dot matrix display’s 16-pin interface allows full control over which row and column combination is active at any time, giving the builder complete per-pixel color control across the 8×8 grid for custom color animation projects.
