The DS3231 RTC Module Precise Real Time Clock with AT24C32 is the high-accuracy upgrade to the DS1307 real time clock module — where the DS1307 relies on an external 32.768kHz crystal that drifts with temperature changes, the DS3231 has a Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) built directly into the chip that automatically corrects for temperature-induced frequency variations and maintains timekeeping accuracy to ±2 parts per million from 0°C to 40°C. In practical terms, ±2 ppm translates to approximately one second of drift per month — compared to a DS1307 which can drift by a minute or more per month under the same conditions — making the DS3231 the correct choice for any project where the clock must remain accurate over weeks and months without manual correction.

The ds3231 rtc module operates from 3.3V to 5V DC, directly compatible with both 5V Arduino boards and 3.3V boards such as ESP32 and Raspberry Pi without a level shifter on the I2C lines — an advantage over the DS1307 which requires 5V.
