The AI Thinker A9G GSM/GPRS+GPS/BDS Development Board is a combined cellular and positioning module that integrates quad-band GSM/GPRS communication at 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz with dual-constellation GPS and BDS (BeiDou) satellite positioning in a single ai thinker Module. The board operates from 3.3V to 4.2V DC — direct LiPo battery range — and communicates via UART TTL, making it the most compact integrated GSM plus GPS solution available for Arduino and embedded MCU tracker builds without requiring separate cellular and GPS modules, antennas, and wiring.

The ai thinker a9g board achieves GPS positioning accuracy below 2.5 metres by combining signals from both the American GPS satellite constellation and dual-constellation reception increases the number of visible satellites overhead, improving fix reliability in urban canyon environments and under partial sky obscuration common in Indian city street deployments. The ai thinker A9G SDK is based on Pudding OS and supports MQTT, TCP, UDP, HTTP, and FTP over GPRS without an external MCU — the module runs application firmware directly on its internal processor. the 3.3V to 4.2V supply range means a 5V Arduino cannot power the A9G directly from its 5V rail — a LiPo or a regulated 3.3V supply from the Arduino’s pin is required, and Arduino output must be verified for adequate current capacity before connection.

The non-obvious advantage of the ai thinker a9g board over using separate GSM and GPS modules is synchronised time — the A9G uses GPS/BDS time signals to maintain accurate real-time clock data for GPRS-transmitted packets, eliminating the need for an external RTC module in tracker and data logger builds.
