The GSM 2dBi Rubber Duck Antenna covers six frequency bands — 800, 900, 1800, 1900, 2010, and 2025 MHz — making it compatible with Quad Band GSM (Global System for Mobile) and 3G networks. Rubber duck is the engineering term for a short flexible whip antenna (a flexible antenna that bends without damage). The 2dbi SMA plug connector on this antenna is a right angle type, meaning the connector points sideways at 90 degrees instead of straight up. That lets you mount the antenna flat against an enclosure wall where a vertical connector would not fit.

The SMA connector right angle format reduces mechanical stress on the module’s antenna port when the antenna gets bumped. One non-obvious detail — a right angle connector adds a small impedance discontinuity at the bend point, but at GSM frequencies below 2100 MHz the signal loss from this is negligible in practice.
