The IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor Module detects the boundary between a dark line and a light surface using an IR (Infrared) emitter and photodetector pair built onto a small PCB. The IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor runs on 3.3V to 5V DC and outputs a digital high or low signal depending on whether the surface below is reflective or absorptive. White surfaces reflect well and return HIGH. Dark surfaces absorb IR and pull the output LOW.
The ir line tracking sensor arduino uses IR reflectance sensing, where the photodetector reads how much infrared bounces back from the surface. One non-obvious detail — the detection works within a very short distance, typically a few millimetres from the sensor face. The limitation is ambient sunlight, which contains infrared and can overwhelm the receiver in outdoor conditions. The ir tracking sensor made in india connects to Arduino and ESP32 digital input pins. Students and hobbyists building line follower robots use it regularly. StemVolt provide this module tested with confirmed output on a black-on-white track surface.
