Description

The IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor Module detects the boundary between a dark line and a light surface using an IR (Infrared) emitter and photodetector pair built onto a small PCB. The IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor runs on 3.3V to 5V DC and outputs a digital high or low signal depending on whether the surface below is reflective or absorptive. White surfaces reflect well and return HIGH. Dark surfaces absorb IR and pull the output LOW.

The ir line tracking sensor arduino uses IR reflectance sensing, where the photodetector reads how much infrared bounces back from the surface. One non-obvious detail — the detection works within a very short distance, typically a few millimetres from the sensor face. The limitation is ambient sunlight, which contains infrared and can overwhelm the receiver in outdoor conditions. The ir tracking sensor made in india connects to Arduino and ESP32 digital input pins. Students and hobbyists building line follower robots use it regularly. StemVolt provide this module tested with confirmed output on a black-on-white track surface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor Module detect a black line on white paper?
+
Yes. The IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor Module outputs LOW when the IR emitter faces black paper and HIGH when it faces white paper, at 3.3V to 5V operating voltage.
What voltage does the IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor need to operate?
+
The IR line tracking sensor works on 3.3V to 5V DC. Connect VCC to your board supply, GND to ground, and signal to any digital input pin directly.
How high above the surface should the IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor Module be mounted?
+
Mount it within a few millimetres of the track surface for reliable detection. Higher mounting reduces reflected IR signal strength and causes incorrect output readings on the digital pin.
Does the IR line tracking sensor work outdoors in sunlight?
+
Outdoors is not recommended. Sunlight contains strong infrared that overwhelms the photodetector and causes false output. Use indoors under stable artificial lighting for consistent line detection results.
How do I connect the IR Infrared Line Tracking Sensor Module to an Arduino?
+
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V, GND to GND, and the signal output pin to any Arduino digital input pin. Read HIGH for a light surface and LOW for a dark line in your sketch.
