The Sound Detection Module Sensor uses an LM393 comparator chip with both digital and analog output through AO, G, +, and DO pins, with an effective induction distance of 0.5 metre, operating from 3.3V to 5V. The sound sensor is a basic threshold-trigger design rather than an audio-capture device — unlike the MAX4466 with its adjustable gain trimmer or the INMP441’s digital I2S audio capture covered separately, this module simply detects when ambient sound crosses a set loudness threshold.

The sound sensor price’s 0.5 metre induction distance tells the practical pickup range of its onboard microphone capsule, meaning the module reliably detects sounds occurring within about half a metre rather than across a room. This sound detection sensor’s LM393 comparator converts the microphone’s raw signal into a clean digital trigger on the DO pin, while the AO pin provides a graduated analog reading proportional to sound level for applications wanting relative loudness rather than a simple trigger.

Sound sensor arduino module is designed for simple clap-detection or sound-triggered alarm circuits rather than capturing meaningful audio content, so projects needing speech recognition or audio recording should use a dedicated microphone module instead.
