Description

The IR Sensor Module is a compact infrared obstacle avoidance sensor that detects objects from 2cm to 30cm using infrared reflection, outputting a digital LOW signal when an obstacle is within range on a three-pin interface at 3.3V to 5V DC. The infrared sensor 35° detection angle creates a cone-shaped sensing zone in front of the module — wider than the narrow beam of TCRT5000 surface sensors — allowing the ir sensor module to detect objects that are slightly off-centre without requiring precise alignment between robot and obstacle.

The ir sensor module arduino connection uses the standard three-pin ir sensor pinout — VCC to 5V, GND to ground, and OUT to any Arduino digital input pin. The infrared ir sensor onboard potentiometer adjusts the detection distance between 2cm and 30cm — rotating clockwise increases sensitivity and extends the range, while counter-clockwise rotation reduces it to the minimum 2cm for close-proximity-only detection. The OUT pin goes LOW when an obstacle is detected and HIGH in free space, following the standard obstacle sensor logic used in all major Arduino robot sketches and libraries across Indian college projects.

the 35° detection angle of ir sensor module also detects objects slightly to the side — in narrow corridors or when mounted close to walls, it may trigger false obstacle detections from the side walls rather than objects directly ahead.
