The TCRT5000 IR Sensor Module is a reflective infrared obstacle avoidance and proximity detection sensor operating from 3.3V to 5V DC at 15mA working current, detecting objects and surfaces from approximately 2cm to 30cm by emitting infrared light and measuring the reflected intensity from nearby objects. The tcrt5000 ir reflective sensor provides both a digital output (DO) that switches state when an object enters the detection threshold, and an analog output (AO) proportional to reflection intensity — making it usable as a digital obstacle alert switch and an analog proximity gauge simultaneously.

The ir sensor pinout on this module exposes four connections — VCC, GND, DO (digital output), and AO (analog output) — and per the ir sensor datasheet the digital threshold is set by an onboard trimmer potentiometer that adjusts the comparator reference voltage. Rotating the potentiometer clockwise increases sensitivity and reduces the trigger distance, while counter-clockwise rotation increases the effective detection range up to 30cm. The tcrt5000 reflective ir sensor module mounts easily on robot chassis and breadboard builds with standard 2.54mm header pins.
