The TCRT5000 Reflective IR Optical Sensor emits infrared light and reads how much bounces back from a surface within 1.5cm. It is a photoelectric switch (a sensor that uses light to detect objects) running on 3.3V to 5V DC. The tcrt5000 ir reflective optical sensor outputs through a phototransistor (a light-sensitive transistor), which means the signal current changes with reflected light, not just voltage. Glossy and transparent surfaces can cause unreliable readings, so test your surface before building. StemVolt ships this sensor ready to connect to Arduino or any 3.3V to 5V compatible board using just three pins.
