The BFD-1000 Five Channel Infrared Tracking Sensor Module is a wide-array line detection sensor providing five independent digital outputs — one per IR sensing element — covering a broader lateral footprint than 4-channel or single-channel sensors, operating from 3.3V to 5V DC. The bfd 1000 5 channel sensor onboard LEDs illuminate individually for each active channel, giving an instant visual indication of which sensor positions are over the line during setup and calibration without connecting an oscilloscope or serial monitor. Detection range is 0 to 4cm for black line sensing and 0 to 5cm adjustable for general reflectance detection.

The 5 channel ir line tracking sensor module five digital outputs connect to five Arduino digital input pins — reading all five simultaneously as a binary pattern gives precise positional error information. A centred robot produces the pattern 00100, drifting left gives 01000 or 10000, and drifting right gives 00010 or 00001 — this 5-bit position value is the standard input for PID line follower firmware in the ir line tracking sensor arduino builds used across Indian college robotics competitions.
