The E18-D80NK Adjustable Infrared Sensor Switch detects objects without contact using an infrared (IR) light source that emits invisible light and reads the reflected beam. The ir proximity sensor switch adjusts its sensing range from 3cm to 80cm using a small potentiometer (an adjustable resistor) built into the rear of the sensor barrel. It runs on 5V DC at 100mA current and outputs a digital LOW signal when an object is detected.

The proximity switch 3-80cm range uses an NPN open-collector output (an output circuit that pulls LOW when active and floats when idle). One non-obvious detail — an external pull-up resistor (typically 10K ohm) between the output wire and your supply voltage to read a clean signal on a microcontroller GPIO pin. Without it, the output floats unpredictably. The honest limitation is that the 80cm maximum range applies only to highly reflective white targets. Dark or matte surfaces reduce effective detection distance significantly.

The proximity sensor e18 d80nk connects to Arduino, ESP32, and PLC digital input pins through three wires: brown to positive, blue to GND, and black to GPIO with a pull-up. Robotics engineers and factory automation project makers use it regularly. To start, set the potentiometer to mid-range, connect the wires, and read the output pin.
