The E18-D80NK Adjustable Infrared Sensor Switch is an industrial-grade M18 threaded metal-body proximity sensor that detects objects from 3cm to 80cm using a 15° infrared pointing angle, operating at 5V DC with 100mA current consumption and an NPN open-collector Normally Open output. The ir proximity sensor switch detection range significantly exceeds the 2cm to 30cm range of standard hobbyist IR modules — the E18-D80NK’s longer range and metal housing make it suitable for industrial automation panels, conveyor systems, and outdoor sensing applications where breadboard-style modules lack the durability and range needed.

The e18-d80nk ir sensor onboard adjustment dial sets the trigger distance anywhere within the 3cm to 80cm window — rotating the dial changes the threshold at which the NPN output switches LOW when an object enters the beam. The proximity sensor e18 d80nk NPN open-collector output requires a pull-up resistor (typically 10kΩ) to read a clean HIGH signal on Arduino digital inputs when no object is present, similar to the wiring approach used for M12 inductive proximity sensors.
