When the door or window closes, the magnet sits adjacent to the transmitter body and the internal reed switch stays closed – no signal is transmitted. When the door or window opens, the magnet moves away, the reed switch opens, and the transmitter immediately sends a radio signal to the paired alarm receiver or security panel.

That wireless transmission eliminates the need to run signal wires from each door or window back to the alarm control panel, which is the primary installation advantage over wired contact sensors.
