The AS608 Fingerprint Sensor Module captures and stores fingerprint data at 500dpi (dots per inch) resolution. At that resolution, even fine ridge details in a print get recorded cleanly. The optical fingerprint scanner works as a complete system — it handles scanning, processing, and template storage all on one module. A fingerprint sensor like this removes the need for passwords or keys entirely.

The AS608 uses UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter) or USB to talk to a microcontroller. One detail that surprises many builders: the module stores fingerprint templates internally, so your microcontroller does not need to handle raw image data at all. The trade-off is that wet or very dry fingers reduce matching accuracy, which is worth knowing before deploying it outdoors.

The optical fingerprint sensor pairs with Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi over UART at 3.3V.
