The BX350-3AA High Precision Resistance Strain Gauge Sensor uses a polyimide film base that bonds to test surfaces using cyanoacrylate or epoxy strain gauge adhesive. Polyimide handles temperature cycling better than paper-backed gauges and maintains dimensional stability during cure, which preserves the alignment of the foil grid to the stress direction after bonding. The strain limit of 0.02 means the gauge operates accurately up to 2% strain before the foil reaches its measurement limit — beyond this, the foil may yield permanently and the gauge gives unreliable readings. This range covers most elastic deformation in steel, aluminium, and composite structural members under working loads.

A strain gauge works by changing its electrical resistance when it physically stretches or compresses with the surface it is bonded to. The foil grid inside the Strain Gauge Sensor is made from a resistive alloy — when the surface bends or elongates under load, the foil grid deforms by the same amount, changing its resistance proportionally. That resistance change is tiny — a gauge factor of approximately 2.0 means a 1% strain produces roughly a 2% resistance change, so the output signal requires a precision differential amplifier like the HX711 or INA125 to convert it into a readable voltage.
