MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module

The MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module detects smoke, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), methane, propane, and other flammable gases in surrounding air. The mq2 gas sensor runs on a fixed 5V DC supply and requires a preheat duration (warm-up time) of 20 seconds after power-on. Always wait those 20 seconds before reading the output — skipping this gives wrong values every time.

The mq2 sensor uses a metal oxide sensing element whose resistance drops when flammable gas touches it. A non-obvious fact is that high room humidity shifts the baseline resistance even without any gas present, which can trigger false alarms. The smoke and gas sensor also responds to hydrogen and alcohol vapour, so avoid testing it near cleaning sprays or hand sanitiser.
