Description

The MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module detects smoke, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), methane, propane, and other flammable gases in surrounding air. The mq2 gas sensor runs on a fixed 5V DC supply and requires a preheat duration (warm-up time) of 20 seconds after power-on. Always wait those 20 seconds before reading the output — skipping this gives wrong values every time.

The mq2 sensor uses a metal oxide sensing element whose resistance drops when flammable gas touches it. A non-obvious fact is that high room humidity shifts the baseline resistance even without any gas present, which can trigger false alarms. The smoke and gas sensor also responds to hydrogen and alcohol vapour, so avoid testing it near cleaning sprays or hand sanitiser.

Students and safety project builders use this with Arduino and connect vcc, gnd and the signal pin to get your first gas alarm running right away. StemVolt provides this sensor with trusted quality, ensuring reliable performance and easy usability.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module detect?
+
The MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module detects smoke, LPG, methane, propane, and other flammable gases in the surrounding air. It outputs a digital signal when gas concentration crosses the set threshold level on the onboard potentiometer.
How do I connect the MQ-2 gas sensor to Arduino?
+
Connection is simple. Connect VCC to Arduino 5V, GND to GND, and the digital output pin (DOUT) to any digital input pin on your Arduino board. The MQ-2 gas sensor starts giving readings after the 20-second preheat time is complete.
Why does the MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module need 20 seconds to warm up?
+
The sensing element (a heated metal oxide) needs time to reach its operating temperature before giving stable readings. The MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module reads incorrectly if you skip this warm-up. Always wait 20 seconds after powering on.
Can the MQ-2 sensor detect LPG gas leaks at home?
+
Yes. The MQ-2 sensor responds well to LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) leaks in kitchen or storage areas. Pair it with a buzzer and relay on an Arduino Uno to build a working home gas alarm in under an hour.
Does the MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module give analog or digital output?
+
The MQ-2 Smoke Flammable Gas Sensor Module gives both. The digital output pin gives a simple HIGH or LOW signal based on the threshold set by the onboard potentiometer. An analog output pin is also available for reading raw gas concentration values.
