The Heart Beat Pulse Sensor Module detects heartbeats by shining an LED (light-emitting diode) onto the fingertip and reading light reflection changes with a photodetector (a light-sensitive component). Each heartbeat changes blood volume under the skin, which changes how much light reflects back — this is called PPG (photoplethysmography). The pulse sensor outputs an analog voltage waveform that peaks with every beat, and runs on 3.3V to 5V. Its 15mm circular PCB diameter fits over a fingertip naturally.

The heartbeat sensor price sits low because the design is simple — but that simplicity has a trade-off. The analog output is sensitive to motion. Any finger movement during reading creates noise that looks like a false heartbeat. The sensor works well when the finger stays still. A software filter or moving average smooths most of this in code.

The heartbeat sensor module works with Arduino IDE using the PulseSensor Playground library, which handles BPM calculation automatically. Engineer building health monitors, and makers testing wearables all use it. Connect S pin to an analog input, power from 3.3V, and open serial plotter in Arduino IDE to see the waveform live.
