Description

The LDR Light Depend Sensor Module is a 4-pin light detection breakout built around a CdS photoresistor, providing both analog (AO) and digital (DO) outputs and operating from 3.3V to 5V DC across a wide -30°C to 70°C temperature range. The ldr sensor module works on the principle that the cadmium sulphide photoresistor’s resistance decreases as ambient light intensity increases — bright light gives low resistance, darkness gives high resistance, and this variable resistance forms a voltage divider with the onboard 10K ohm potentiometer to produce both outputs.

The ldr sensor arduino analog output (AO) gives a continuous voltage proportional to light level, suitable for analogRead() based light-level logging, while the digital output (DO) switches HIGH or LOW based on a threshold set by the onboard 10K potentiometer — turning the potentiometer adjusts the light level at which the digital output triggers. The ldr light dependent resistor digital threshold mode is commonly used for automatic street light and dark-activated relay circuits, while the analog mode suits light intensity measurement and data logging projects. This ldr made in india module is manufactured domestically, offering Indian college labs and STEM projects a locally supported light sensor alternative.

CdS photoresistors have a slow response time compared to photodiodes or phototransistors — light level changes take tens to hundreds of milliseconds to fully register, making this light dependent sensor module unsuitable for high-speed light-based communication but well-suited for ambient light sensing. Available from StemVolt, this module is ideal for engineers building light-activated automation systems and practical embedded ambient sensing electronics projects.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the LDR Light Depend Sensor detect light changes on a circuit?
+
The LDR Light Depend Sensor uses a CdS photoresistor whose resistance drops in bright light and rises in darkness. A comparator on the module converts that resistance change into a clean HIGH or LOW digital output for your microcontroller.
How do I adjust the sensitivity of the LDR sensor module?
+
Turn the 10K ohm potentiometer on the LDR sensor module clockwise or anticlockwise until the indicator LED changes state at your desired light level. No code changes needed. Test under your actual lighting conditions for the best threshold setting.
Can the LDR Light Depend Sensor output both analog and digital signals at the same time?
+
Yes. The LDR Light Depend Sensor provides a 4-pin header with both an analog output pin and a digital output pin. The analog pin gives a varying voltage proportional to light. The digital pin switches cleanly once the threshold is crossed.
What voltage does the LDR sensor Arduino setup need to power the module correctly?
+
The LDR sensor Arduino connection needs 3.3V or 5V DC on the VCC pin. Both voltages work. The CdS photoresistor output scales with supply voltage, so use the same voltage as your microcontroller to avoid logic level mismatches on the output pin.
Does the LDR Light Depend Sensor work outdoors across different temperatures?
+
Yes. The LDR Light Depend Sensor operates from minus 30°C to 70°C, covering Indian outdoor temperature ranges. Rain and direct water exposure are not covered though — the bare PCB needs a weatherproof enclosure for long-term outdoor deployment to function reliably.
