The Raindrops Detection Sensor Module is a two-board rain sensing system consisting of a 54mm x 40mm x 1.5mm collector board with exposed copper trace grid and a 32mm x 15mm x 9mm driver board with an LM393 voltage comparator, operating from 3.3V to 5V DC with both analog and digital outputs. The rain drop sensor works by measuring resistance across the collector board’s exposed copper grid — when dry, the gaps between traces have very high resistance, but when rainwater bridges these gaps, the resistance drops significantly and is detected as a voltage change.

The rain sensor module’s collector board is mounted outdoors facing upward to catch raindrops directly, while the driver board with the raindrops module’s LM393 comparator typically stays in a protected enclosure connected by wires — keeping sensitive electronics away from direct water exposure while only the simple copper grid faces weather. The rain water sensor’s analog output (AO) provides a graduated reading proportional to how much of the grid is wet, useful for estimating rain intensity, while the digital output (DO) gives a simple threshold-triggered rain/no-rain signal for the rain detector for Arduino interrupt-based wake-up logic.

the automatic rain detector’s exposed copper grid can oxidize over time with repeated wetting, gradually reducing sensitivity — periodic cleaning or eventual collector board replacement maintains accuracy.
