The PCA9685 16 Channel 12-Bit PWM Servo Motor Driver Module offloads all PWM signal generation to the PCA9685 IC, which communicates with the microcontroller over I2C using just two wires — SDA and SCL. That two-wire connection controls all 16 servo channels independently, freeing every PWM pin on the Arduino for other project tasks. The servo motor driver uses 12-bit resolution — 4096 steps across the full duty cycle range.
Standard servo control uses a 1ms to 2ms pulse width window, and at 4096 steps that window divides into increments fine enough that servo position changes feel smooth rather than stepped in mechanical output.  PWM frequency is configurable to approximately 1.6 kHz but is typically set to 50Hz for standard servo operation. The PCA9685 16 channel 12-bit PWM servo motor driver I2C address is configurable through onboard solder jumpers — multiple PCA9685 boards share the same bus, theoretically allowing up to 62 boards and 992 independently controlled channels from two Arduino pins.
The PCA9685 generates the PWM signal but does not supply servo power. Servos draw current from a separate VCC servo power rail on the board, which must come from an adequately rated power supply rather than the Arduino 5V pin. The 16Ch 12Bit Motor Driver Module suits robotic arm builds, hexapod mechanisms, and multi-axis pan-tilt systems. Available on StemVolt. This module working on multi-servo control and robotics positioning.
