An onboard LED confirms active power at a glance.

The dht11 humidity and temp sensor uses a resistive humidity element (a component whose electrical resistance changes as it absorbs moisture from surrounding air) paired with a thermistor (a temperature-sensitive resistor). One non-obvious detail — the DHT11 can only update its reading once per second. Polling it faster returns the same old reading, not a fresh measurement. The honest limitation is accuracy at plus or minus 5 percent RH and plus or minus 2°C, which suits trend monitoring better than precise measurement.
