The MPU-6050 Gyro And Accelerometer Sensor Module combines a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer into a single IC, communicating over I2C. It runs on 5V input through an on-board 3.3V regulator, so connecting it to an Arduino Uno or Nano needs only power and two I2C lines. The mpu6050 accelerometer and gyro outputs feed the host processor simultaneously, removing the need for two separate sensor modules in motion-sensing builds.
The mpu6050 gyroscope accelerometer uses a 32.768kHz crystal for internal timing. A non-obvious detail is that the MPU-6050 also includes a Digital Motion Processor (DMP) that can offload quaternion calculations from the main MCU, but activating the DMP requires loading firmware into the chip at startup. The gyro range tops out at plus or minus 2000 degrees per second, which covers fast UAV rotation but still saturates under very sharp mechanical impact events.
Drone builders and self-balancing robot makers gesture control use the mpu6050 sensor module. StemVolt provides this sensor with trusted quality, ensuring reliable performance and easy usability. Use Arduino IDE with the MPU6050 library with an I2C driver and start reading gyro and accel data in minutes.
