The BMP180 Digital Barometric Pressure Sensor Module (GY-68 breakout) measures atmospheric pressure from 300 to 1100 hPa via I2C communication (up to 3.4MHz), with a 5 millisecond pressure conversion time, operating from 1.8V to 3.6V at 1000µA peak current. The bmp180 pressure sensor measures the same atmospheric pressure principle used in traditional barometers, but digitally — and because air pressure decreases predictably with altitude, this bmp180 sensor’s pressure readings can be converted into altitude estimates using the standard barometric formula, a common technique in drone altitude hold systems.

As a barometric pressure sensor bmp180, the GY-68 module’s I2C-only interface keeps wiring simple — just SDA and SCL plus power, sharing the same bus as other I2C sensors like the MPU-9250 IMU. The barometric pressure sensor arduino integration requires care with voltage, however — this sensor’s native 1.8-3.6V range is lower than a standard Arduino’s 5V logic, so most GY-68 breakout boards include an onboard voltage regulator and level shifter to make 5V-to-3.3V conversion safe and automatic for the user.
