The MPU-9250 9-Axis IMU Motion Sensor Module packs a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, and 3-axis magnetometer into a single compact PCB. All three sensors run through the MPU9250 chip and share one I2C or SPI bus with the host microcontroller. The 9 axis imu sensor outputs rotation, acceleration, and heading data simultaneously, which removes the need to synchronise multiple separate sensor modules.

The mpu9250 sensor runs at 3.3V logic, so connecting it directly to a 5V Arduino without a level shifter will damage the chip over time. Gyroscope range is configurable at 250, 500, 1000, or 2000 degrees per second in firmware, and the accelerometer switches between plus or minus 2g to 16g. A non-obvious detail is that the internal magnetometer on the MPU9250 communicates over an auxiliary I2C bus inside the chip, not the main I2C bus. This means reading magnetometer data requires a specific pass-through or FIFO configuration in your sketch, which most beginner tutorials skip entirely.
